In Response to a Recent Email

Recently, a gentleman wanted to ask me about Traffic Exchanges and ProfitClicking in particular. Seeing it as a source of traffic but of mostly dis-interested participation… I put some energy into my response to this question, and felt it deserving as a post!

I would say that the scenario you describe represents a worst case example of what is happening.  In General a Traffic Exchange is a place to have your site/opportunity seen in exchange for viewing others.  In general, most exchanges offer FREE accounts so it is possible to get traffic to your website for FREE.

ProfitClicking has sweetened the deal with a profit share payment for participants, and though you can join for free, that participation can only go so far before a payment is required.  Most TEs display your ad for 6 to 7 seconds before they move on.  If the participant likes what they see, they can pause their surfing to learn more. At ProfitClicking the surf is 20 seconds to get credit. 

So you can place a commercial in front of 2Million Opportunity Seekers for $10 at a time.  Everyone seeing your ad must stay there for 20 seconds and Read, listen, View what you present. Almost all members of PC are Opporutnity Seekers, so you are getting VERY targeted traffic.  If you put out a newspaper ad, it may hit 300,000 homes, but how many really interested people see it.  If they already have two jobs, and are busy with kids and whatnot, how valuable was that ad?

I have heard it said that the kind of traffic that is generated is not the most desirable kind of traffic.  Let me just say this about such comments:  Who is making them?  People that Advertise on Google or Craig's list?  These companies are Search Engine driven, so they claim any traffic not Searched for is trash.  How can this be when companies pay dearly to purchase TV ads and the end user is neither targeted nor able to select (search) what they are seeing.  This kind of advertising is Shotgun Advertising. I won't tell you Search traffic is bad... no... you have pre-qualified the traffic when they arrive.  I just want you to hear such claims about the VALUE of TE traffic with a bit of skepticism.

views, and increase the profit share payment by $0.20.
c) To keep the profit sharing payments coming you must
view 3 ads daily.  PC has made a provision where you
can accumulate views ahead of time, up to 45 days.
4) In time you can withdraw your initial payment and keep the
Advertising going indefinitely... with no more payment!

WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GET A SELF SUSTAINING OPPORTUNITY TO ADVERTISE TO 2.1 MILLION PEOPLE, FOREVER, FOR FREE?

One more thing... if you place your ads in a website rotator, you can essentially advertise an unlimited amount of Ads through those 3 links you place with PC.  You then can change, update, eliminate those ads at will, not having to wait on PC to update your links.  Have a special promotion? Holiday Ads?  No problem.  Add and remove them at will.

So... in summary... yes, some people don't really care about your ad.  They are a captive audience of Targeted Opportunity seekers, and must view, listen or watch for 20 seconds.

You can start a self-sustaining Ad stream for reasonable money, that can self sustain forever.  You just need to visit and view ads yourself, you can accumulate enough to need to do this only once a month.

At best this is good targeted traffic.  At worst it is a shotgun. It is said people need to see, hear, read (whatever) your material or opportunity 7 times to gain confidence and or feel recognition for you (you company).  Perhaps at the very least you are building Name Recognition and you also have the opportunity to build your personal branding!

Right now Your Opportunity is Geographically limited. PC advertises worldwide... so much of this advertising is not going to hit the people you REALLY want to see it... but you are building brand... and when each new territory (state) is added, you can announce that out in Ads especially for that group (SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE IN FLORIDA!  OPPORTUNITY WORLDWIDE!).
